A Foundation was established on the 3rd of September 2022 wi th the mandate to carry forward the legacy of a revered playwright\, legen dary actor and retired SABC radio broadcaster\, Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa (1950 –2020). Hailed as the Godfather of township theatre\, “Bra Paul”\, a s affectionately known\, had produced\, directed and starred in several st age plays in a career that spanned over four decades. He was also well-kno wn for his work in radio dramas on Thobela FM where he served as a broadca ster as well as head of the drama department.
He also me ntored some of the country’s best actors from the province of Limpopo\, including the late Skeem Saam actor Charles Maja\, Thobela FM presenter an d actor Sebasa Mogale as well as the former executive drama producer for T hobela FM\, Makwela Lekalakala. At the time of his death\, he had a cameo role as Rakgolo Josias on SABC 1’s Soapie Skeem Saam.
September has been chosen as a month of annually commemorating and shining light on the legacy of the man who dedicated his life to promoting and en couraging knowledge\, understanding\, appreciation and enjoyment of drama\ , dance\, music and other forms and facets of the performing arts in their varied expressions within the province of Limpopo and beyond.
