The Kaelo Oxpecker Ultra takes plac e on 20 April 2024 at the Em’seni Race Village just outside Winterton in Kwa-Zulu Natal’s Central Drakensberg. The event was hatched from Gary G reen’s passion for Ultra Trail Running and is organised by the same fami ly and crew who host the Kaelo Oxpecker and Standard Bank Berg & Bush.

    Leaving Kingfisher camp with an early start allows us to enjoy the ea rly morning sounds of Africa as we follow well-worn tracks along the bank s of the Tugela River. The sun should rise as we begin our first climb up Lantana pass running through acacia trees\, tall aloes\, giraffe and herds of antelope.

    The nice wide well-worn paths allow us to take in all the views as we follow sections of The Berg and Bu sh like Grand Canyon and Cabbage Tree climb. As we wind our way around th e base of Spioenkop Mountain we are eventually forced to attack the summit . 

    The 1.5 km climb is legendary and well w orth it as the views over the Drakensberg mountains and Tugela River far b elow are breathtaking. You will be rewarded as you continue your journey meandering down the 13 km track back to Emseni Camp via Long Drop pass and Bell Run.
