Nicholas Hester is an artist and beekeeper. A drive to look below the surface, using technology in service of research and craft, is the thread of connectedness between this exhibition and earlier work. The project began at the 'Association for Visual Arts' during its first manifestation and continues at NIROX and project58 in the Cradle of Humankind. The residency will include the installation of an apiary of Eco Hives designed by the artist and will emanate from continued research on the bees and will be exhibited at NIROX at the end of October.
From 22 – 23 October 2021, Nicholas Hester will host a workshop at FARMHOUSE 58 entitled ‘Live Bees: Merging Art & Nature through Regenerative Beekeeping’ alongside his NIROX residency. Immerse in conversation and talks, lunch at And then there was fire, a nature walk, and raw honey tasting.
The workshop will explore the topic of regenerative agriculture, specifically in relation to beekeeping, against the overall theme of the merging of art and nature.
Nicholas will discuss bees and their importance in regenerative beekeeping and eco hive design, after which, Julia West will facilitate a conversation on regenerative agriculture.
