The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon will host the 2026 Abbott World Marathon Majors Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Championships on 24 May 2026.
The AbbottWMM Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Championship is an event for athletes ages 40+ who qualify from the Age Group World Rankings. It has been held each year since 2021 within the TCS London Marathon (2021, 2022), the Bank of America Chicago Marathon (2023), the TCS Sydney Marathon (2024), the TCS New York City Marathon (2025), and will be taking place within the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon in 2026.
Athletes must be registered at worldmarathonmajors.com to claim their ranking results and be eligible for an invitation to the Championship event.

As part of the 2026 Age Group World Championships weekend in Cape Town, participating athletes and their companions are warmly invited to attend the official Welcome Function on Friday, 22 May, and the official Awards Evening on Sunday, 24 May. Expect a vibrant welcome to Cape Town, opportunities to connect with fellow international athletes and companions, and memorable celebrations that capture the spirit and excitement of an unforgettable marathon weekend.

Participation in AbbottWMM Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Championship: In accordance with the AbbottWMM Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Championship, participation in the event is for athletes ages 40+.
Welcome Function & Awards Evening: Companions under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. No alcohol will be served to persons under the age of 18.
The evening will begin with an athlete (participant) group photo, followed by a special performance by the internationally acclaimed Ndlovu Youth Choir, whose vibrant harmonies and energetic rhythms provide a powerful introduction to South Africa and the excitement of marathon weekend. After the concert, guests can enjoy dinner and drinks in a setting of warm African hospitality - an ideal way to connect with fellow traveling athletes, companions, and visitors from around the world and set the tone for an unforgettable race weekend.

Hosted at Cabo Beach Club at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, a beautiful coastal setting provides the perfect backdrop for an evening of awards for athletes and their companions, followed by dinner and drinks. It’s a moment to sit back and soak it all in. To celebrate personal achievement, the coming together of a global running community, and to honour those crowned 2026 Age Group World Champions.
