Sketch With Streetlight is a series of online classes that are a collaboration between Streetlight Schools and three esteemed South African artists. They are a way to engage with art for adults (16+) and for families with children through the unique lens of each artist and to disconnect from the challenging times we live in.
Session 2 features Chloë Reid, an artist interested in everyday sociology & the relationship btw reading, writing & artistic practice. She has exhibited & curated locally & internationally and produced 2 collections of short fiction. She established a gallery in 2019 with the aim of developing an embodied framework for artists, writers & curators foregrounding collaboration & exchange.
This class will offer various ways of considering art for anyone. You will explore the tools Chloë uses in her work as an artist & curator to gain insight into the practice of an artist and to develop conversations around work that may be difficult to relate to. Threaded through this class will be how storytelling can be used to create empathy in the process of looking at art.
