Peponi meaning “paradise” in Swahili, is a vibrant and thought-provoking dance-theatre performance from Tanzania that explores what the idea of paradise means from an African perspective.
Created by House of Wondar, the performance invites audiences, particularly young people, to reflect on a powerful question: "Can we create our own paradise, here and now, on the African continent?"
Blending dance, theatre, movement and audience participation, Peponi explores themes of identity, hope, belonging, dreams and the possibility of creating a better future within our own communities. Rather than presenting paradise as a distant or unreachable place, the performance encourages audiences to imagine what paradise could look like if we were to create it ourselves.
As part of its Southern African Tour, Peponi will travel across six countries; South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania and Eswatini with eight performances connecting artists and audiences across the region.
